This drink contains so many memories of my childhood. My mom has made this ever since I can remember. It was a fun drink growing up and it remains one of my favorites to this day. It’s refreshing, fruity, and of course, slushy. It’s perfect for any place, any time, and any one.
This is great if you’re having a party. It can be prepared in advanced and is easily stored in the freezer {for at least 6 months} and can be pulled out for a few minutes just before serving. You can have it on hand and the only thing you need to add is a can of soda. My dad enjoys this as a snack all the time. He pulls out an orange soda {his favorite pair to the slush}, takes out a few scoops, and it’s ready to drink.
When I told him I made this, he called me the night before I was coming to visit to make sure I brought him up a container. That’s the other good thing… it’s makes a ton and can be stored for such a long time. If you don’t think you’ll use it all up yourself {not quite sure why you wouldn’t…} you can give some to a friend, or parents, or sibling… you get the idea!
{It’s a non-alcoholic drink. I just put it in a Martini glass because it looks pretty that way!}
Slush {print recipe}
2 cups sugar
6 cups water, divided
5 bananas
1 46-ounce can unsweetened pinapple juice
2 cans {12-ounces each} frozen orange juice concentrate, thawed
1 can {12-ounces} frozen lemonade concentrate, thawed
Serve with favorite soda {lemon-lime, gingerale, or orange are good choices}
Measure out 2 cups of water and 2 cups of sugar, stir to combine. In a sauce pan over medium-high heat, bring the water-sugar mixture to a boil. Boil for one minute, then remove from heat and let cool to room temperature. Cut the bananas into 1-inch pieces. In a blender or food processor, combine the water-sugar mixture and bananas; blend until smooth. Pour into a large bowl {something that will hold at least 6 quarts with room to stir}. Add the concentrates, pinapple juice and remaining water. Using a ladle, divide evenly among freezer safe containers. Cover and freeze until hardened. {Lasts up to 6 months in the freezer}. When ready to serve remove container from the freezer and let thaw {like ice cream} until it is easy to scoop out. Fill half of a glass with slush and the remaining with soda of choice. Stir and serve. Store in the freezer. Makes about 24 cups.
Recipe is from my Grandma, but I also saw a very similar version in a Taste of Home Magazine {not sure which issue though}.

Sounds great and it is perfect for the summer.
I have an award for you.
